PENTA ROOF COMPOUND RED. An elastomeric coating, which provides a highly flexible, thick, durable water and weather- proof coating, for use on all types of roofs. For use on concrete, asbestos cement, galvanize, aluminium, zinc, bitumen and most other roofing substrates.

Coverage:
1.For best protection especially over Galvanize and Wood. 1st coat – 6-8 m2/litre thinned 4:1
2nd coat – 0.5 -1.0m2/litre un-thinned 3rd coat – 0.5 – 1.0 m2/litre un-thinned. Theoretical System DFT = 1.1 – 2.2 mm
2.For Concrete Roofs 1st coat – 6-8m2/litre thinned 4:1 2nd coat – 4-5m2/litre un-thinned.
3rd coat – 4-5m2/litre un-thinned. Theoretical System DFT = 275-350 μm.
3.For other substrates a more economical system is: 1st – 6-8m2/litre thinned 4:1. 2nd coat – 2.0-2.5m2/litre un-thinned 3rd coat – 2.0-2.5m2/litre un-thinned. Theoretical System DFT = 485-610 μm
Drying Time:
1st coat Touch: 20 – 30 minutes, Recoat: 60 minutes
2nd coat Recoat 2-3 hours depending on thickness and humidity.
2nd and 3rd coats should be preferably be applied within 48 hours of previous coat, and definitely within 5 days.

General Surface Preparation
New and unpainted: Ensure that surfaces are dry and cleaned free of all dirt, grease, oil, rust and other contaminants including fungus/algae.
Aluminium: Remove oils, lubricants etc., by solvent cleaning with Penta Thinner 41 in accordance with SSPC-SP1-82. Remove dirt and water-soluble contaminants by washing with water or a water/detergent solution, followed by thorough rinsing. Do not allow detergent to dry out. Allow to dry.
New Galvanize: Thoroughly degrease to remove oils, greases, waxes etc. by solvent cleaning with Thinner 41 in accordance with SSPC-SP1-82. Remove non oily soils and dirt by water washing with scrubbing, using a nylon brush/broom. Partially soluble contaminants and clear water sensitive chromate coatings may be removed by cleaning with a solution of ammonia or acetic acid, followed by thorough rinsing with clean water. Sanding or brush sandblasting can be used to remove silicate and chromate treatments, and also to roughen the surface, which is important for ensuring good adhesion.
Weathered Galvanize: Weathering of galvanize for at least 6 months will remove oils and many surface treatments, and provide a finely etched surface suitable for painting. Weathering is unpredictable, and the surface must therefore be thoroughly examined to ensure that the oxidized surface layer is uniform and tightly adherent.
Scrub with water and a nylon brush to remove non oily dirt, any water soluble zinc salts, and loose, powdery white rust. Cleaning with a dilute solution of ammonia or acetic acid may also be used to remove partially soluble zinc salts, but this must be followed by very thorough rinsing with clean water. Clean if necessary, with Penta Thinner 41 to remove any oily contaminants.
Rusted Galvanize: Derust by mopping the whole surface with Penta Deruster 127 diluted 1:2 with water. Allow to derust for 2 to 3 minutes before rinsing thoroughly, by hosing down with water. Do not allow Penta Deruster 127 to dry off.
Masonry: Ensure that surfaces have thoroughly dried out, by allowing cement rendered surfaces to cure for 4 weeks, and poured concrete for 8 weeks. Fill any surface defects (holes, cracks, crevices etc.) with a mixture of 1 part Penta Roof Compound to 3 parts sand (refer ?joints and cracks below?)
Previously painted: Remove all loose, flaking, peeling and semi-adherent paint, rust, dirt oil contaminants, fungus/algae etc. to obtain a clean, sound surface. Remove soluble zinc salts as for weathered galvanize. Treat rusted areas with Penta Deruster 127 rust remover and rinse off thoroughly. Do not allow Penta Deruster 127 to dry off. If more than 25% of the previous coating can easily be scrapped off, it should be completely removed.
